(2,806 posts)The Republican base - including the Teabaggers who are merely renamed members of the same party who are the most extreme and racists - have no where else to go. They'll vote for anyone that calls themselves a Republican regardless of any particular position they might have because they can't abide the alternative. The same goes for most Democrats. The debates are all about shoring up support among the undecided voters and bolstering weak support among members of the party who may not be all that motivated to actually go out and vote on election day.
The undecided voters saw a completely ambushed President letting his opponent just mop up the stage with him. Obama could have gotten in a few verbal jabs instead of just letting the guy continue lying about his policies and programs. I guess he decided he'd let those things stand because denying and correcting Mittens on them would mean he'd be on the defensive.
