Look, I have no problem with this being properly studied if there is even some invitro suggestion of efficacy (and there is one animal study), but those human studies published to date (and I reviewed the Egyptian study that most proponents point to) have major issues in how they were conducted, analyzed, choice of subjects and follow-up.

That said, as in some specific breeds of dogs, there are some issues with toxicity that appears genetic in basis and which can lead to serious neurological adverse effects. While generally safe in most instances, the use of ivermectin for the global campaign to control Onchocerciasis in humans (parasitic cause of "river blindness') manifested in many such adverse outcomes.

Hardly something I'd hope the average Joe who finds some on the shelf of their neighbor's cattle barn would start using.
