31. If we look at lasting damage done, I think Reagan did the most damage

De-regulation, trickle-down economics, defunding mental health initiatives (which spiked our homeless rates), war on drugs, hard core prison sentences vs rehabilitation, double down on oil, Iran contra....I could go on.

W would be second. 911 happened on his watch as did two wars based on lies. His economic policies led to 2008 economy collapse.

Trump is an overt racist and xenophobic who played directly to people's biases. He blatantly broke laws that Reagan and W insulated themselves against.

Ford is next (although I almost put him third) for pardoning Nixon and setting a precedent where former presidents are not held accountable.

Nixon was actually liberal compared to today's standards. And he may have prevented a segregationist from becoming president in 1968. Nixon had very bad judgement caused by extreme paranoia.

Carter had great ideas but wasn't the greatest at communicating an inspirational vision of how the country and people would benefit. I wish he had been more aggressive with Iran during the hostage crisis.

Obama helped bring the country back from the 2008 financial crisis. He used a lot of creative solutions. I think ACA could have been better designed--but ACA is awesome considering how innovative it was. I wish Obama had talked about racial injustice more than he did. And I think he could have played a better political game with congress.

Clinton oversaw the best stretch of prosperity since right after WWII. There are people today living on retirement accounts built under Clinton. Yes, the crime bill ended up having unintended consequences. However, Democrats had been labeled as weak on crime, which was a real liability. And while the defense of marriage act was shitty, I do believe that it prevented a constitutional amendment defining marriage from being passed (at that point it very well could have passed). And let's not forget that Clinton gave us RBG.
