12. A real apology would have meant first speaking to her directly

and saying something like, "I was an ass and I'm really, really sorry," and then making a statement on the House floor to the effect of "There is no excuse for the words I used to refer to my colleague because there is no excuse. No matter how much we might disagree or our tempers flare, insults, especially using the words I used, are always wrong. I am ashamed and embarrassed and I offer my sincere apologies to my fellow Congressperson and this entire House. It will not happen again." What you don't do is blame your "passion" and your alleged love of God, your country and your family, none of which have anything to do with your bad temper and your foul mouth, and which only proves how phony your non-apology apology was.
