Especially between West and Hegar. Position wise they're nearly identical.

West brings strong and vast legislative experience. He'd also break a glass ceiling of being the first black US Senator from Texas. His candidacy will help turn out the minority vote more than Hegar would, which helps Bidens run as well at the same time. As a negative, he'd be directly pitting his state level legislative experience against Cornyn's federal level legislative experience. That would give Cornyn some stronger talking points.

Hegar brings that military pilot with combat experience to the table. Personally, that's not something I give 2 shits about for choosing a Senator, but I'm also realistic and know that is something that does sit well for a large portion of the Texas electorate. The purple heart award will sit well with many. Her candidacy will help turn out the pro-military and female vote. In NextDoor app, and my Texas political Discord server, her narrative that she was in the military while Cornyn just says he supports the military trends well. Her major downside is lack of legislative experience that will likewise be used by Cornyn.
