I take it no one has every tried to color correct a photo taken at night . . .

All sorts of artifacts and odd coloration show up. The shirt is almost certainly an artificat of injecting color back into the rest of the image which would have looked closer to grayscale in the original. The process also sometimes creates starker contrasts (the "bandaid&quot than exist without manipulating the color.

(I take underwater photos wthout a flash - when I get the correction right, the colors are far better than a camera mounted flash colors. when I don't - they look weird, like this one.)
