My memory of the HIV epidemic, is that those who were positive, at some point, began to demand access to experimental drugs.

In the end, some level of experimentation led to the cocktail that treats HIV.

Trump is an ass, of course. And he should just be quiet. But if I were near death and some MD thought that X or Y or Z would work, I would be fine with trying. I think that some level of prescribing off-label - in this emergency, makes some sense and MD's around the world are doing this.

Hopefully, with skill, insight, and a great deal of caution.
