5. I was an eye dr in nursing home for years

By her description she is not talking about conjunctivitis ( she specially mentions the white part of the eye, thats the bulbar conjunctiva that gets red in eye infection)

She is talking about the skin around the eyes that can get red in allergies which she again mentions. This is known as erythema, the red shadow

My first guess would be blepheritis an eyelid infection. Very very very common in nursing homes. Bacterial though, but in an immune compromised patient it could rage out of control

My next guess would be a sign of severe oxygen depletion

My last guess would be coincidental allergies
