(25,568 posts)He got really angry when we skipped school and went to an anti-Viet Nam march, tried to strangle my sister and we ran away. Not good responses on any of our part. Dad had a breakdown, put his anger in control, terrified us 16 and 17 year old girls, so we lost our minds and just ran. Police caught my sister and returned her home, my dad got treatment, I hung out with friends for 4 months, returned home and we worked things out. My sister and I realized we needed to leave our evangelical house ASAP because our parents couldn't handle the lives we wanted to live, and moved out when we were 18. My sister is a believer, so quickly reconciled with them. I am not a believer, so it took longer. I moved to CA and 4 years later, I had an epiphany and we reconciled. We remained close and I was able to help both of them during their end of life trips.
