The plot isnt the same as our reality, and Lear is more sympathetic, but there are dozens of lines from it that remind me of this administration.
Every time Cheeto begins with his self-pitying, whiney bullshit (which is far too frequent), I hear him saying
I am a man, more sinned against than sinning.
Threats against North Korea from an insane king?
I will do such things,
What they are, yet I know not; but they shall be
The terrors of the earth.
Time shall unfold what plighted cunning hides:
Who cover faults, at last shame them derides.
This is the excellent foppery of the world, that, when we are sick in fortune, often the surfeit of our own behaviour, we make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and the stars; as if we were villains by necessity, fools by heavenly compulsion, knaves, thieves, and treachers by spherical predominance, drunkards, liars, and adulterers by an enforced obedience of planetary influence; and all that we are evil in, by a divine thrusting on: an admirable evasion of whore-master man, to lay his goatish disposition to the charge of a star!
