In reply to the discussion: Joy Reid's Defenders Praise Her Apology -- But Ignore Her Apparent Cover-Up (Huffington Post) [View all]wonkwest
(463 posts)I was very critical of her. I am pleased with her apology and the panel she had on her show. Now that she's done that, I have no intention of harping on her role in the matter any longer. I'm glad she did it, and I'm glad she still has her show and continues to be a powerful, critical voice against the abomination we have in the White House.
Her defenders, however, have made no amends. I have seen no admission of being wrong, no apologies for attacking LGBT posters, no contrition for calling anyone who questioned the story a right-winger, Russian bot, racist, or misogynist.
Many good Democrats were attacked and dragged through the mud for questioning what was an entirely implausible and ludicrous claim that there was hacking.
Instead of going, "I like Joy, was eager to defend her, and was wrong. I'm sorry if I went after people unnecessarily," we're getting doubling down, more attacks, and obtuse claims that none of it matters.
People need to own their own words and behavior. Joy admirably did. What about people right here in this thread?
And as an LGBTer, let me just say, please don't use my community to grind a tribal axe against people who disagree with you. I've seen you do it all over the board the past week. It's offensive to me. If you cared about my community, you'd not have attacked good faith critics - including several LGBT posters - and empathized with how those words made many LGBTers feel.
The responses in this thread are perpetuating ugliness against my family and my community. It needs to stop.
Please, just stop. You're far from the only person here who's done this. People need to have a self-awareness check moment and realize the damage and division they're causing by alienating good Democrats and LGBT people.
