5. Hello Behind the Aegis

"it’s a reminder that their views are less fringe than we’d like to imagine."

Traditional politicians, and I'm including ours, here in Europe, are partly responsible.

Rwers were carefully avoided and their repulsive rhetoric shot down in flames.

But since 2 decades or so, some politicians, more concerned in their own self-interest than the needs of the citizens, started to cast a wide net to attract supporters from far-right parties.

They have co-opted a part of their discourse (the less repugnant, if any) pretending being aware and listening to people concerns...

In fact, it didn't work but the damage was done : it normalized an awful rhetoric. It backfired on them with, as a direct consequence, the increasing of populists' supporters.

I did my best, I hope it is not too fuzzy. Really not easy to argue in a foreign language.
