Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump wanting international help.
Shortly after Hegseth declared the Strait of Hormuz was open, except for it not being open at all, Trump posted something so nonsensical that Alice herself would be proud. If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't.
Trump posted to social media, "Many countries, especially those who are affected by Iran's attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending warships in conjunction with the United States of America to keep the Strait open and safe. We have already destroyed 100% of Iran's military capability, but it's easy for them to send a drone or two, drop a mine, or deliver a close-range missile somewhere along or in this waterway, no matter how badly defeated they are. Hopefully, China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others that are affected by this artificial constraint will send ships to the area so that the Hormuz Strait will no longer be a threat by a nation that has been totally decapitated. In the meantime, the United States will be bombing the shoreline and continually shooting Iranian boats and ships out of the water. One way or the other, we will soon get the Hormuz Strait, open, safe, and free. President Donald J. Trump.
Go ahead and listen to that again if you need to. I'll still be here. There is no sentence in his rant that agrees with any other sentence in it.
Normally, I would say that this is him just trying to get his base and true believers to engage in Orwellian double think, but his target audience here isn't his base. I think he's realized he bit off more than he can chew and is genuinely confused by what to say. So we get nonsense that includes a first sentence with the primary announcement of many countries will be sending warships followed immediately by we have already destroyed 100% of Iran's military capability. Sure, Jan.
So why do we need warships again? Because it isn't destroyed. That's followed by a sentence that says he hopes the countries will send warships, including one country that has already said no when the US wanted their mine sweepers. And those warships are to open the Strait, which he recently said was open, which is being closed by a nation. He just said he destroyed 100% of their military and now also they're totally decapitated. That's followed by a promise to bomb the shore and the boats and ships of the decapitated military that were already 100% destroyed.
So, after starting an elective war for no coherently stated or discernible reason, after trashing the rules-based international order, starting trade wars, insulting the troops of the countries he now wants to put in harm's way, and removing sanctions on a country that poses a threat to some of the very countries he's calling, Trump is now begging for help from the international community. He shouldn't be surprised if some of them and their troops decide to stay a little back, a little off the front lines.
Iran has suggested it'll drive the price of oil up to $200 per barrel. That seems unlikely, but they're already inflicting massive damage to the global economy. In related news, Trump has repeatedly said Iran wanted to make a deal, was ready for unconditional surrender, and so on.
Iran's foreign minister said, "No, we never asked for a ceasefire, and we have never asked even for negotiation. We are ready to defend ourselves as long as it takes."
Trump needs to take the advice of his advisers who know he doesn't have a clue what he's doing before he gets more people hurt. As {Trump administration AI czar David} Sacks said, declare victory and get out.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
Justice matters.
(9,720 posts)The orange $atan went hat in hand to the world after he imposed illegal tariffs on their goods, insulted and demeaned them, saying they took advantage of the US while they only do commerce with whoever wants to buy their products, including customers in the US. The world checked its phone and put it back in its pocket.
France said no. Officially. In writing. Germany said nothing, which is German for no. Norway said no. The UK is discussing options with allies, which is British for no. Japan stayed silent while 70% of its Middle East oil supply sits behind a minefield. South Korea watched Washington and Tehran play chicken with its own energy supply and declined to pick a side. China called it a sovereign right and hung up. Qatar didnt just refuse. Qatar stopped production entirely and declared force majeure. Their energy minister did not mince words: this will bring down economies of the world.
Iran is still there. Still attacking ships. Still laying mines. Still holding the strait.
The most powerful military on Earth sent out the call. Ten countries heard it. The result is a number that requires no commentary: zero.
This is what the end of American power looks like in practice. A request for warships that came back empty. Washington spent decades telling the world that the US-led order was worth defending. The world has moved away from the US.
