Can Democrats salvage the Maine Senate race after Platner's exit? - Washington Week PBS

It wasn’t the Nazi tattoo that did in Graham Platner. It was a rape allegation that caused the left-wing of the party to finally give up on their beloved oysterman. The big question for Democrats now is how to salvage Maine, which they pretty much have to win to take control of the Senate. - Aired on 07/10/2026.

Although the circumstances are very different, do a search and read about the 2002 election for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey.

The candidate had to withdraw and Frank Lautenberg won the election. Of course, he previously held that office, but if Frank could do it then, another candidate can do it in November in Maine.
