161 missing after deadly Texas floods as criticism over no siren warning system grows - NBC News

Texas Governor Greg Abbott says at least 109 people are dead and 161 people are still missing due to the catastrophic flooding that ravaged the Texas Hill Country. Kerr County officials were pressed today over why there is no county-wide siren system to warn people about natural disasters like flash flooding.

10-year-old Lucy Kennedy described the harrowing moments when floodwaters began to rise at Camp Mystic. She says at first, she evacuated from her bunk to a rec center. Then at daybreak, Lucy was driven to another camp, where a helicopter picked her up and took her to safety. Lucy’s mother, Wynne, says the hours when she waited for news about her daughter were the longest of her life.
