Trump's Brain Drain: Scientists Look to Move Abroad as DOGE Slashes Research Funding in U.S.

Cuts by the Trump administration are beginning to “chase” U.S.-based scientists at federal agencies and research institutions out of the country. “We’re draining our scientific talent,” says environmental journalist Robert Hunziker, who explains how China and European countries are offering positions for scientists laid off, fired or pushed out by Trump and DOGE’s mass culling of federal workers and funding. The massive U.S. “brain drain” is a “brain gain” for other countries, adds Hunziker, and comes as the Trump administration also cracks down on university curriculums and targets international students for its mass deportation initiative.

1. I already work for a French-owned multinational...but this is a SERIOUS issue for the future of America.

We already have a hard time finding quality candidates to staff our efforts in R&D and Engineering. The local, native population of qualified scientists is thin to begin with, but now its getting far, far worse.

I would not hesitate for a second to pick up an emigrate to France or Canada or Germany or Italy or even China at this point.

There is the political level horseshit happening in America, but the really poisonous element in today's implosion of the USA is the advance of the anti-intellectual crowd to positions of power under Trump and previously under Musk's reign of terror. The glorification of idiocy and attacks on experts or science bastardization through pseudo-scientific drivel like RKF and his ilk is killing the future of America right now. 20 years from now, the USA will be out of the top-50 nations in the world, its economy will be in Russia-like tatters, its population will be in a state of constant civil unrest and regional wars led by ideologues and liars. No one will invest here, no one will prosper here and no one will care at all about the plight of the people here - they will only care that the nuclear arsenal is dismantled and safely eliminated.

WE are setting up a future where the discussion will honestly be whether or not the USA can bomb the world into concessions to a dying empire and its starving people - an extortion to forgive our debts or face our bombs. And before anyone calls me alarmist or says that can't ever happen here...25 years ago, pre-9/11 how many people would have EVER believed that congressmen, judges and press would be getting arrested and charged with a DOJ puppet master AG? It CAN happen, and unless Trump is removed (soon), it WILL happen. He has no other choice... unless he were to decide somehow that the world is better off is he just goes away and tries to negotiate a resignation/pardon that allows him to not die in jail.
