The US Pays Some of the Highest Drug Prices in the World. Can Trump Fix That? - Amanpour and Company PBS

This week, Trump issued an executive order aiming to reduce high prescription drug prices and insisting that drug companies ensure Americans pay the same price as other countries.

Dr. Jerry Avorn is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He joins Hari Sreenivasan to discuss why the cost of medication in the U.S. is so high, and what Trump can do to bring prices down. - Originally aired on May 15, 2025.

TSF's efforts won't lower drug prices in this country.

His goal is to make other countries, particularly Europe, pay MORE for their drugs.

Why:
1. The NATO theory: Trump wants the NATO defense nations to pay more for the U.S. participation in the organization. He can't stand the idea of other entities paying less, and hence, getting a "bargain". Business, y'know.

2. The U.S. pharmaceutical corporations aren't going to lower their prices. Period. They aren't. First, shareholders would riot (or something like that). Second, remember all the lobbying with Shrub to make sure that the prices of drugs wouldn't be negotiable for Medicare. High prices may be applied for research and development, but face it, the backwash of those extra dollars go into the businesses. And they aren't giving up a dollar.

3. Trump will fail ultimately. He will announce that his efforts worked, that Europe is now paying "their fair share" and the U.S. consumer is better off. But of course, it will be status quo with Europe and the U.S. paying the same in the future as they are now. Nothing will happen to benefit the U.S. consumer and TSF will just give himself another medal for MAGA.

He will lie and say he lowered prices.

He will make sure that the big pharma donors make more money and are not regulated

Then he will lie and say people are better off.

Then they will repeal Obamacare which his racist supporters will chear because they want nothing from that uppity black Muslim.

He will lie and say people who are suffering are suffering because of the loony liberals.

Lie ...destroy society... Rinse and repeat
