The S&P 500 closed Tuesday April 29 at 5561, up 0.6% for the day,
and down 3.8% from the 5783 election day closing level,
and down 7.3% from the inauguration eve closing level,
and down 5.5% year-to-date,
and down 9.5% from its all-time closing high of 6144 on Feb 19. (we were down 18.9% at the 4/8 close, nearing a bear market which is 20% down. )

The S&P 500 is about 80% of the total U.S. stock market by capitalization.

For fans of the Dow, it is down 6.8% from the inauguration eve closing level.
