A Lasting Moment of Beauty and Peace frozen in time by the Hubble Space Telescope

A reminder of our beautiful world from the Cloud Appreciation Society

Clouds are ephemeral, and most hang around for just a matter of hours – some only minutes. But interstellar clouds can exist for much longer.

This globular cluster, located 160,000 light-years from us in the Large Magellanic Cloud, known as NGC 1850, is a dense sphere of stars held together by their mutual gravitational pull. The blue veil in front of it is known as a pattern of nebulosity. Scientists believe it is the dust and gas left over from blasts of supernovas, and it may be several hundred years old – according to some, between 800 and 1,000 years.

If our future lies in the stars, it’s nice to know that we’ll still be able to spot clouds while we’re up there...
