(114,669 posts)in order to get sent to solitary confinement where their meditation is undisturbed except by the arrival of food. Those are the extremely meditative types, solitary is not a nice place by design. The silence is punctuated by screams of distress.
The OP applies to everyone but extreme extroverts, sitting alone is extremely painful to them. He's also confusing the brain with the mind. The brain is what babbles constantly and seeks stimulation and when it finds it, interprets it as pleasure or pain. The mind regards everything with equanimity, is silent, has neither memory nor aspiration.
The mind is what people who sit quietly, alone in a room, will eventually bump into. And that's what the OP was tapdancing around, it's called meditation.
