Travel
Related: About this forumAnyone hesitant about traveling out of the US and coming back with progressive websites and texts
on their phones? Or perhaps a history of dem party donations and voting?
Heading to Germany this spring for a wedding. Haven't done anything wrong of course (in our minds) so choosing to go, unless some earthshaking event happens. And I'm loath to change our lives just because a toddler is leading the country, but....

(109,776 posts)I am not on social media and never have been. DU is easy enough to "wipe" from one's phone/computer if necessary. I have never posted anything approaching threatening type posts, and my clear anti-Trump posts, well, they are just that-- anonymous sans a lot of work on their part. Especially so without any cached websites on a new phone or tablet.

Or better as those above said... get a cheap (if they exist anymore) burner phone for travel.

(18,225 posts)If it was just me, I would let it roll, but my wife is dependent on me. Last year when I got terminated, I removed all political messaging from my Facebook.
I probably will never leave the country again (my wife doesn't want to travel internationally - she refuses to get a passport).

(15,376 posts)At least for iphone, power on requires a password and they cannot demand that from you. For windows computers unfortunately biometric access is active on reboot. Perhaps don't bring a computer.
A burner is an option.

(25,107 posts)Orange reign of terror is over. I have been posting anti orange Hitler stuff since 2015 on here and other social media. And Im sure Im on an enemies list somewhere in his maga cult. I might not be able to re enter from international travel. Also Im nervous flying domestically. Ill still do car trips within my state. And to visit my mother law in the next state over.

(116 posts)Im actually returning to US from my winter home in the Caribbean next weekfor a month. My stopover is in Dallas. All my papers, passport etc. are in order. I have already begun to wipe some data, but the texts and emails from democrats are hard to disappear. I need to bring back my iPhone, iPad and iMac.
I am worried!

(14,945 posts)You couldn't pay me to get on an airplane to a neighboring state. If that didn't scare me enough, I have no doubt my donations, voting record, and being a member of DU, not to mention being old, would be enough for them to detain me.
Face it, our lives have changed and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Oh, but the other candidate was a black woman who laughed too much.
Safe travels to you.

Again...reading DU is not illegal. If they are able to stop us or detain us for posting criticisms we have much bigger problems here to worry about.
I think chances of global economic meltdown, war, cyber attack, etc by then are greater than me being questioned about DU registration or dem donations. Of course, if I bought a pair of $700 gold shoes by a conman I'm sure I could be waved through with 'thanks and god bless'!
Hate that we even have to think about these kinds of things.

(56,233 posts)probably fine. I'd be more worried about flight safety on the way back or across US.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
