NFL approves new rules for the 2025 season - NBC News

With the upcoming NFL season drawing near, team owners approved new rules for 2025, but tabled a vote to ban the “tush push” play that helped the Philadelphia Eagles win one Super Bowl and reach another. The proposal was postponed until May.

of explaining any of the other. Overtime rules? Who the hell knows? Might they have spent 20 seconds explaining or even (heaven forbid) contrasting with that in NCAA college football that many have gotten the chance to see in 7-8x repeated glory during a single game last season?

Once again, this is why I have such disdain for sports summaries on mainstream "news/entertainment" shows. But, I suppose we know they are at least discussing such issues...

No offense, TexasTowelie--not directed at you...

Saw them talking about these on ESPN.
The overtime rule now guarantees each team the ball once. Still 10 minutes.
So, both teams can score a TD, and still end in a tie. The rest of the rule is as before. One team gets a FG, the other gets a TD, game over. Neither team scores on first possession, any score wins.
The kickoff rule brings touch backs to the 35, to discourage kicking into the endzone. Really good defenses are expected to do it anyway.
Chain gangs will strictly be emergency usage, as ball placement will be electronic.
Finally, the "legal tampering" window has changed. Teams can now have Zoom calls with 52 hours to have preliminary discussions with free agents 52 hours before the league year begins.
