CUBS WIN!! CUBS WIN!! CUBS WIN!!

I know it's early in the season and I've had my heart broken more times than I can count, but I can't help but think that maybe, just maybe, this is one of those magical years that everything just falls into place for the Cubbies!

What a great game. Cubs were winning 4-2 until the top of the 9th when the Reds scored four runs, making it 6-4. The Cubs tied it up in the bottom half and won it 7-6 in the 10th! MY CUBBIES!

Fly the W, baby!

6. Cubs suck. Damn, felt good to say it. Grew up the lone White Sox fan in a neighborhood of cubbie rooters.

I must say you're in good company: both President Obama and Pope Leo are Sox fans.

Good for you! Do you ever go to any of the crosstown games?

I've always regretted not ever going to Comiskey before they tore it down. I guess I could go to whatever they call it now when the Tigers are in Chicago but I would have to do it when the Cubs are on the road. I could never go see the Sox when I could be at Wrigley Field.

When I was a kid, I went to old Comiskey several times. I liked baseball, and followed the Sox a lot. They had some exciting teams and players then. They were in the World Series. I saw Early Wynn pitch. I saw Minnie Minoso hit some good ones. I liked Luis Aparicio. There were other players I followed during that roughly 1958 to 1962 time period.

It did not take me long to get more interested in the Cubs. I did not care if they were 25 games out of first place. I did not care that they were cursed by a billy goat or that they slid into last place every September. Believe it or not, my son and I were there for the Bartman game. (My son was a season ticket holder, but he had to give that up in his divorce).

We put up with a lot as Cubs fans, but it is worth it.

I'm looking forward to it.

Here's hoping we meet in the playoffs!
