Stephen A. Smith Ominously Warns Trump 'Coming' for Sports

Smith said the arrests represent a “nugget of evidence” showing the president’s desire to punish sports leagues that run afoul of him—and warned more leagues may be next.

“Don’t be surprised if the WNBA is next on his list,” he warned. “Because when you have all of these protests that have been goin’ on out there, and people have been protestin’ against him... this man is coming.”

The WNBA has been one of the most openly anti-Trump professional leagues, with players frequently taking part in Black Lives Matter demonstrations and publicly endorsing Democratic candidates.

While there hasn’t been significant backlash to Trump from the NBA during his second term, basketball players famously drew Trump’s ire for participating in Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.

Exhibit One: Trump "organizes" the American Football League to compete with the NFL in the 80s.

Exhibit Two: LIV Golf. Donald Trump's properties are a significant part of LIV Golf's schedule, with his courses hosting LIV events and, for the first time, the PGA Tour in 2026. (Because the PGA is essentially avoiding Trump courses.) Wouldn't be surprised if he owns a significant interest in the organization.

Why wouldn't Trump go after the NBA. Lots of money there too.

That's all Saudi money. Sportswashing their image after all the awful stuff they've done.
Trump is just a beneficiary.
Now since LIV is hemorrhaging cash, I can see why you thought he would have some financial involvement.
If he did, it would by symmetrical because his businesses always lose money.
Until the silly media SPAC he didn't have the money to be involved. He still wouldn't have the cash, even today.
Also, the failed football league was the USFL, not the AFL. The AFL merged with the NFL in the 60s and all the teams were included. (Chiefs, Patriots, Broncos, Bills, Chargers, Oilers, Dolphins,
Jets, and so on.) Lots of Super Bowl wins in that group. Not a big failure like the USFL. Of course, Trump was still a kud and couldn't be involved & screw things up.

The investigation predates Trump and was started during Biden. The FBI was allowed to follow through with the arrests because there was nothing politically motivated one way or the other to control or close the investigation based on the political identification of the targets.

They can try to go after the WNBA all they want but they need to find evidence of crimes first.
