Heat Lightning

All day, meteorologists promised extreme storms.
Tonight, the atmosphere is grumbling,
clearing its throat, and posturing,
like a featherweight boxer
feinting,
trying to seem larger and tougher
than he is.

The sky tries to intimidate
but the little flashes of heat lightning
are only entertaining.

I sit on the porch and think
this is my favorite kind of night.

Actually, it's quite nice & the type of storm we get a lot.

3. I think it's a lovely poem

but the editor in me can't help suggesting "the weatherman" for "meteorologists" in the first line. I like the idea of the sky trying to intimidate with growling, threatening noises and with heat lightning--it's a lovely image. And then you, in the face of all the attempts to scare you, sitting on your front porch loving it.

Reminds me a little of "Please don't throw me in the briar patch!"

Going on right now except we're actually going to get the rain, soon.

I took some pictures of some really cool clouds this evening along with a marvelous sunset in the west. I need to download them, maybe in the morning, I'm starting to fade right now.
