all of these years to have been seeking a possession
now all is impossible to cling onto not to be claimed
the frayed ropes hanging gallows the place on a hill
as here life death and illusion separate in acceptance
left too long inside hearts the thoughts fester and rot
unrecognizable bereft of any meaning stripped bare
and any attempt that is made to sound them out futile
gradually seeping into the night soft shadows of ghosts
emotions eaten with great gulps then comes the purge
love hate fear and envy scattered upon a barren soil
fecund and fertile waiting to sprout and bear life’s fruit
roots formed in the frozen ground reaching ever deeper
the relics once cherished now disdained and discarded
and lost in forgetfulness memory fleeing shriveled souls
