the divide between fantasy and reality has widened
ragged edges show the tears where tears have torn
a vow to separate empathy and emotion heightened
this loss of dreams wears tatters of hope left forlorn
alive in the silent spaces sound has been abandoned
straining to hear least voiced words of peace and love
in corners of the black places with what was planned
seep thoughts dank and moist they drain from above
as the shadows lengthen a soon darkness encroaches
where once there were stars now are the dying ghosts
life force does not strengthen it festers among roaches
as the flickering fire chars dwell in a hell of the hosts
now alone the soul is molting the heart starts a decay
cushions understanding jolting at the end of the play
