One evening I noticed a flame out of the corner of my eye, I looked over and the lady across the street had what looked to be a three foot branch of pine with two foot flames and sparks coming off it and she was going room to room. It would not have taken much to set the whole house a blaze. It was one of the most unsafe things I've seen. I use sage, sweet grass and spruce when I smudge. I put the sweet grass and spruce needles in a bowl to burn, like BBQ, never any flame.
