Americas First Black Postmaster

On January 2, 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt took an extraordinary step to protect Minnie M. Cox, the first Black female postmaster in the United States, against racial threats. Closing the Indianola post office sent shockwaves across the nation and highlighted issues of racism and federal power.
