Deadly dog fight

CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago police officer who shot and killed her neighbor’s escapee dog when it got into a scuffle with her own dog is not entitled to immunity from the neighbor’s unreasonable seizure and emotional distress claims. The officer pulled out her gun mere seconds into the fight and shot the neighbor’s pitbull terrier mix, Aggie, just as the neighbor was attempting to intervene in the dog fight by grabbing Aggie. A reasonable jury could find the officer’s behavior to be “outrageous,” a federal judge ruled, also allowing claims against the City of Chicago to move forward.
