Related: About this forumMartini kills me.
I take her into the upstairs bathroom to give her her medicine. I wait to make sure she swallows her 3/4 pill before I open the door to let her out. Then I give her and Holly (who's waiting outside the door because she knows what's coming next) treats after we go back downstairs. A few days ago, after I opened the door to let her out, she refused to leave the bathroom! You would think that because it's such a torture chamber to her, she would dash out as quickly as she could. But no, she just sat there. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a cat?
The other night, she fought for her life. She was up on her hind legs; clenching her jaw; scratching; growling; and spitting out the pill every time. We went four rounds that night. For such a little cat, she sure is strong and strong-willed.
Man, I love that cat.

(21,982 posts)You have my sympathy about giving your cat a pill. Every time they spit it out, it is smaller. I always hope the vets knew that and increased the dosage, but those are the same people who tell us to brush their teeth.

(1,536 posts)They are a treat and cover the taste of the pill. I used the pill wraps every day for 16 years and we rarely had a spit out pill, (had a cat with epilepsy that needed two pills a day, and then he and his brother developed other ailments as they aged that also required twice daily pills.) My favorite pill wrap was Vetoquinol Pill Wrap. Got it from my vet, but I think you can also buy it on Amazon. It was a pill wrap you could mold around any size pill. Sure made my life easier! Less stressful for my kitties, too.

(2,198 posts)She refused to eat it. I even tried giving it to her without the pill in it to get her used to it and she just turned her nose up at it and walked away.

(1,536 posts)It isn't a pill pocket like the greenies, it is more like modeling clay and you can wrap pills together inside it. It's been nearly four years now since I used it, but I remember it smelling like meat, (possibly bacon?) Before trying it I had to be really fast and the longer I tried the more my cats fought, (not good for cats with heart problems!) You can also buy pill guns, but I never tried them because I got the Vetoquinol and it worked. I found out about the Vetoquinol from a cat epilepsy forum. Here is Vetoquinol from Chewy: https://www.chewy.com/vetoquinol-pill-wrap-dogs-cats/dp/102185 . Give Martini some loves from me!
