First the chili: I left a half can of Hormel chili (turkey, no beans variety) out last night around 10 PM. I went to bed later without putting it away (major procedural error, right before going to bed I'm supposed to look around the kitchen for things like that, but I didn't. DAMMIT I should make a f'ing sign bedside to remind me).
When I got up at 515am there it was on top of the refrigerator. Fortunately it smells and tastes OK. So I decided to finish it off soon (it's in the freezer now for an hour to fast cool it down, but now that I think about it, I shoulda just heated it up and kept it hot - LATER: it's heating up, currently at the ideal temperature for smelling and tasting, and it's fine).
(AND a jar of milk, nearly a quart, was also left on top of the refrigerator, I also put it in the freezer to fast cool it. Fortunately it was mostly frozen at bedtime.)
OK, that explains the chili.
What is "Breakfast rice"? I extremely very rarely have rice for breakfast. Rather, I rotate between cereal and oatmeal. But yesterday A.M., because I was falling behind quota on veggies (the target, which I have been maintaining for months, is an average 3 cups veggies/day), I decided to have some veggies for breakfast and decided that would go good with rice and my use-on-everything bean sauce. So I cooked up a small batch of "breakfast rice". and had rice + 1 cup veggies. That was yesterday morning.
Back to this morning: shortly, I will finish off the leftover breakfast rice batch with a cup of steamed veggies, and pour the Hormel chili on top of it all.
LATER: It's done cooking and is ready to eat -- OMFG, this is a HUGE amount for breakfast, sigh. This is more like a big dinner.

(6,351 posts)I have cleared enough stuff to make my sunday staple of lemon blueberry buttermilk pancakes.

(6,351 posts)It is simple.
take the standard buttermilk pancake recipe, and add lemmon zest, the juice from the lemon, a little extra sugar, and as many buebarries as you like.
1 cup flour,
1 TBS sugar, plus 1 or 2 more depending on your taste and how the lemon juice tastes
1 TBS baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
mix together.
1 TBS butter melted
LEmon zest fro one lemon. I zest the lemon and put it with the butter to melt it.
When melted, add one egg and mix.
Add lemonjuice to about a cup of buttermilk
Combine with the egg and butter mixture.
Add the liquids to the dry and stir to combine. Thin as you like. Add fresh blue berries.
Spoon into a heated pan.
