Selected Kitchen Hacks! II 🌞

Magazine Rack Hack for the Kitchen

Magazine racks can be used for more than just organizing papers and magazines in your office. They can also be used for organization in your kitchen. We filled the containers up with the clutter that normally barricades the cabinet under the kitchen sink. Place all of your kitchen cleaning supplies into magazine racks, putting the most frequently used items towards the front.

The Best Way to Deal with Broken Glass

Broken glass items such as bottles, light bulbs, glassware, mirrors and windows can be a serious safety hazard if not disposed of properly. Broken glass should always be placed inside of something that will not be punctured by shards of glass. So sweep broken glass into an empty cereal box before throwing it away in a garbage bag. This prevents the glass from ripping the garbage bag and creating another hazardous mess.

For super crisp, no mess bacon, lay bacon strips on a nonstick sprayed cooling rack set atop a foil-lined baking sheet then place inside a cold oven and turn the heat to 400 degrees. Let bake for 15-20 minutes or until crisp.

Crush Rice Chex in a plastic bag with a rolling pin for instant gluten-free “panko” bread crumbs.

Stock up on fresh bagged spinach when it goes on sale at the store, throw the bag straight into the freezer, and then add the frozen spinach to smoothies for a healthy, ice-cold addition. The frozen spinach leaves don’t stick together like frozen spinach blocks do.

Always salt pasta water with a minimum of 1 teaspoon salt per 8oz pasta to flavor the pasta from the inside out.

Partially freeze meat for 15-20 minutes to making slicing whisper-thin for stir fry that much easier.

Ripen avocado faster

Put an avocado in a paper bag with a banana, an apple or a kiwi and fold to seal. These fruits produce ethylene gas, a plant hormone that aids ripening.

Coffee ice cubes – Pour coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze until solid. You can drop in a few ice cubes into your milk and let it melt. Enjoy your iced coffee!

Flat Freezing for Storage

Prepacked foods in fancy boxes and plastic display containers take up unnecessary space in your freezer.
Repack your food into ziplock bags that can be stored flat. You will be amazed at how much space you save.

DIY Non Toxic Kitchen Cleaner

If you consider that store-bought kitchen cleaners are filled with chemicals, you will appreciate this clever hack to make a non-toxic kitchen cleaner.

Mix together –

1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 cup distilled or boiled water
10-15 drops lemon essential oil
10-15 drops orange essential oil

The acidic properties of vinegar cut through grime and grease and the essential oils leave your kitchen smelling fresh and clean!

Microwave Fried Garlic

I find that traditional frying is so messy! This awesome hack makes no-mess crispy fried garlic in minutes.

Peel and dice 1 head of garlic. Place it into a microwave-safe bowl like this. Add 1/2 cup of vegetable, canola, or coconut oil.

Microwave for 2-3 minutes and you are done. Save the garlic-infused oil – it is great for Asian chicken dishes.

Freeze herbs in olive oil

This is another clever kitchen hack to ensure that you always have fresh aromatic herbs available.

Place your fresh herbs into an ice tray like this, fill the tray with high-quality olive oil, and freeze. Simply toss one or two cubes in a hot pan and add to your recipe.

Stop boiling water overflow with wooden spoon

I have another science fact for you … wood is a poor conductor of heat.

When you place a wooden spoon on top of a boiling pot, the hot bubbles touch the cooler spoon, condense and collapse, preventing an overflow of boiling water.

Funnel to store dry ingredients

We have all faced the challenge of getting dry ingredients into a jar without spilling half of it on the floor.

Simply cut a large corner from an envelope and snip the end to make an instant funnel. So easy!
