Related: About this forumHow many sloppy joes would you eat?
I admit, im a fan of Red, the traditional sloppy. When LilBit was here, I would put a color chart in front of her, and ask her what color sloppies, she wanted.
Her fave, was always White sloppies, brown the proteins , ground chicken and mushroom, in her case.so I didn't drain, a couple of nice big spoons of ricotta, for creaminess, and some shredded Swiss, for a bit of bite, and if it needs a bit of thinning, CREAM, this is a very heavy, rich tasting, Sloppy
And then, Brown. Same prep, a beef bullion cube, broken up, not diluted with water only, let it cook down ,let the protein fat diluted the cube its gonna be salty, more water, I add a couple tbs, of Dijon mustard, and then water only, to cut that salty,
Don't forget to , taste, taste, taste, as you cook.
This is LilBit and I recipes, I had gastric bypass, 11 years ago. Make them your own.
That's called, COOKING.

(856 posts)Nobody's fault, but it goes back to a summer theater experience one year. We toured Wisconsin and played in gymnasiums in towns that were required to be a certain number of miles away from any other live theaters. Very small towns.2 children's shows for matinees and 2 adult shows for the evenings. We stayed two days and moved on.
We pulled into the gymnasium parking lot mid-day and were met by the sponsors who fed us and introduced us to the various families that would put us up for two nights. The meal from the sponsors was always - sloppy joes. It was cheap and would hold safely even if we were held up by traffic. The families fed their temporary guests for two days. One of the meals, usually lunch, was always - sloppy joes. The third day, we traveled and set up at the next town. Rinse, repeat.
This is a minimum of 4 sloppy joes per week for an entire summer. They're edible and I would eat them if that were all there were, but I've already had my lifetime quota.
And this doesn't count the ones my family served. Usually red, but we acquired a white recipe from a family we sometimes camped with. It was ground beef with a can of undiluted cream of chicken soup, salt (as if the soup wasn't already oversalted) and pepper. As I got older, I insisted on at least frying a chopped onion to add, but that was the entire recipe. Yours sounds a lot better.
I had to check if I posted in cooking/ baking forum. And not, what i hated as a young adult, forums.
I was just sharing my experiences and how I kept LilBit involved, in a budget friendly way, with different flavors, while keeping the lights on.
I'm not a chef by any definition. I would love to eat some of the meals posted on this forum..
Back ,when I came up with these variations, i had 10 bucks A DAY, to feed 3 people. I was just tossing a budget friendly, experience out here.
And yeah, MrsK died, LilBit is gone, please, tell me about your " one bad, year, I was touring"
I was here, cooking. While, you toured.

I like budget cooking and have to do a lot of it. I think your white version sounds really good. And I don't blame the number of versions I had to eat that summer, either. Nobody knew how many we'd already had, we didn't (would never) tell them, and they had to feed a fair number of people out of the goodness of their hearts.

(4,730 posts)I didn't read it carefully, the words "sloppy joe" triggered a gut reaction.
Clearly I have sloppy joe issues from childhood...
I'll try and pay better attention.

(39,454 posts)My dad was a meat purist -- steaks or roasts, preferably on the grill, and never cooked more than medium rare. Even A1*, Worcester and Heinz 57 were considered blasphemous. He would have eaten sirloin, baked potato, and tossed salad every night if Mother had consented.
After I moved out, I never had a steak again. I like my food with sauces and spices, and from all different cultures, mostly meatless. Obviously, there's a little bit of protest there, but I really do like variety and spice.
I do enjoy a Sloppy Jack, though -- brined, green jackfruit sauteed with barbecue sauce. Trader Joe's provides one recipe, you don't have to follow all the details -- it's pretty foolproof: https://traderjoesrants.com/2022/07/12/trader-joes-green-jackfruit-canned-in-brine-and-a-recipe-for-pulled-bbq-jackfruit-sliders/ There are plenty of variations online.
Trader Joe's has tons of suggestions for real-meat sloppy joes, as well: https://www.google.com/search?q=trader+joe+sloppy+jack+sandwich+recipe&udm=14
