Having this on the front porch. Very quiet this morning. I've been using binoculars to watch the Barn Swallow nest on the flood lights. Four young in the nest and they have grown rapidly. They are beginning to extend their wings and are soon to leave the nest and take their chances in the world. As I watch I am startled by the buzzing of the humming birds visiting their feeder. It seems loud on this quiet morning.
Ducky and TJ are sleeping in. TJ will be working tonight as she often does on a holiday.

(21,286 posts)This morning, as I got settled with my coffee, I had the strongest sensation of my Mom hugging me. I knew immediately it was her. I'm comforted and yearning by this moment. This is the first time I've had the sensation of getting hugged by my Mom. She passed away in 2007.
When I was very young, my Mom would make chipped beef on toast, and cut the toast into cubes before she put the chipped beef on. One day, she made chipped beef and put it on a whole slice of toast. I complained that the toast wasn't cut. She said I was old enough to cut the toast myself. Looking back over my most persistent memories, I realize that this was a defining moment in my personal independence. My Mom made sure then and every step of the way that I would be able to handle everything that came along. Today, she gave me a hug to remind me that I can keep going and get through this. Thanks, Mom.
