I haven't eaten Caribbean food. If you were eating Caribbean (or Latino) food, what are some must have meals?
I'm going with my friend's sister, and she hasn't eaten there either. Food adventure
Thanks for any ideas!
I'm on my way to see my friend, will check in later

There are many great choices. Be careful since some dishes are spicy. Enjoy!

There is a local place half mile from me that I have gone to, & ordered that special 4 times this summer.

(20,629 posts)I saw mofango on their menu. I'm hoping for rice and beans. I don't mind spice at all.

(20,629 posts)It was cafeteria style, and my friend wanted sit down. So we went next door to an Italian place. I had a meatball sub, she had a meat and cheese sub. Tasted good, and we enjoyed a catch up
I'll get to try Caribbean one of these days.
Thanks for the ideas. I bookmarked the thread

(11,101 posts)The Caribbean has a varied history, with influences from the various colonizers, immigrants (voluntary and not), and the remaining natives.
For Cuban, Cristianos y Moros (black beans and rice) and ropa vieja. For Jamaican, jerk chicken, rice and peas, roti. I don't know enough about the other islands to comment. If fried plantains are on the menu definitely get those.

I'm a little familiar with Jamacian recipes, not sure I've ever had an authentic meal.
Not sure what cuisine this one offered.
Anyway, I didn't get to eat there yesterday
