Related: About this forumDad's birthday cake

It's a chocolate cake with a vanilla buttercream frosting.
The crumble on top is some cookies I made that didn't come out right. (They were no-bake chocolate/peanut butter/oatmeal cookies.) There's some crumble in the middle too.

(11,101 posts)He was a chemist at a large food manufacturing company, and part of his job was analyzing cakes to make sure their profiles matched what was printed on the boxes. He would bring home the tested cakes for us kids' birthdays (frosting covered up the holes where he took the samples), but for his own he insisted on a pie - usually a strawberry pie.

Back in my Sugar Is No Problem days, I made a Ferrero Rocher cake, and a Nanaimo Bar Cake that a lot of people would have trouble resisting and might even convert a few "pie people."
