What's for Dinner, Sat., Jan. 6, 2024

Met a friend for a late lunch and had the chopped salad I like so much: green apple, pear, candied walnuts, bacon lardons, roasted butternut squash, green onion, blue cheese, cranberries. Buttermilk & poppyseed dressing.

In addition, I had a turmeric almond latte. We shared a ricotta donut with wild berry jam and chocolate sauce.

Later tonight if I'm hungry I'll have spinach tortellini in broth with chopped scallion.

We have a soft snow coming down. So pretty. Not much of it, but it does outline the trees and bushes.

Snow has begun here (Catskills) also, and is very pretty. Anticipating waking up to a lot of it, forecasts are for around a foot of it.

Comfort food is called for.

The Landlady is frying the pieces of a chicken in her grandpa’s cast iron pan flavoring the bird with bacon grease.

As the accompaniments, I’m making smashed potatoes which include most of the potato skins. I mix in a modest amount of butter, freshly chopped parsley and a dollop of sour cream. Steamed broccoli round out the dinner.

Tonight is Scrabble night. Brandy will accompany the game.
