Here's an example of what we're up against in terms of science:

I am a firm believer that weight is a lot more complicated than calories in, calories out. I think there are ethnic variations and different body types. I strongly suspect the current obesity crisis is a combination of poisoning from chemicals in our environment (especially those mimicking hormones) and malnutrition as a result of industrial agriculture.

I've long noticed that my cats and dogs bulk up in the fall and lose weight in the spring. So I was very interested in the story on NPR this morning about humans doing the same thing.

Note that one skeptic insists we gain weight because of holiday eating. Did it ever occur to this skeptic that maybe we have a tradition of eating rich foods at the start of winter because of a biological stimulus?!?

i wish the radio story had gone on to ask what we eat in the Spring!

Types of carbs (glycemic index level), amount of fiber, activity level, how we react to the seasonal changes (evolutionary factors)....and so much more.
