Aortic valve replacement.
Tomorrow, we go see my husband's cardiologist. All his tests have been concluded. The surgery will be scheduled. I am losing my mind.

(153,851 posts)Remember that this is no longer a new, experimental surgery. Thousands of these have been done, and with great outcomes.
Also, your husband is a candidate! That means that his doctor believes that he can get through this and do well.
Is there a support group available? It always helps to talk to folks who've been there.
Best of luck to you both.

(34,649 posts)about 8 years ago. The day before we found out that about 4 inches of his aorta needed to be grafted as well. He did really well. The only problem was a lot of short bouts of A fib that went away fairly soon and needing a revision of the scar a few years later that did not heal well.
I hope you have similar or even better results. It is scary sitting in that waiting room. Bring things that will bring you joy, a loved book or podcasts or music.

(1,866 posts)invasive than it used to be. Ask his doctor how many valve replacements he /she has done. It will probably make you feel much better to know how experienced the surgeon is. Wishing you and your husband the best!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
