Cancer Support
Related: About this forumIf I was scared before,
now I am terrified.
I don't know how the people here keep up their spirits.
I thought I was getting a pulmonary function test today. Instead, it was just another consultation. The pulmonologist was upset that things were delayed by three weeks. Now she just delayed them more. I am getting a covid test on the 24th and a pulmonary function test on the 27th. I thought my lung cancer had not spread. So did my primary care doc. Now it looks like it may be in my spine. I don't know yet. If it is, they cannot remove it. I will get chemo and radiation only. The only thing I can do is wait.
We don't know what kind of lung cancer this is. We don't know if it is stage three or four. I am beyond anxious.

(24,506 posts)I cannot imagine how scary this is for you. It seems you deserve answers as to why tests are delayed again. It is difficult to advocate for yourself when you're in a place of anxiety and fear.

(21,060 posts)Pulmonary function tests (sometimes called a PFT or PFT test) help diagnose lung conditions such as asthma,
bronchitis, or COPD. If you have already been diagnosed with a particular lung condition, a pulmonary function
test can also determine how well the medication youre taking for the condition is working.
This test normally isn't for cancer.
They run a PET scan on me to find cancer from top of head to just above the knees.

(2,985 posts)I cant begin to imagine how frightening this must be. Post 3 has good points. Id also call my primary care physician and ask for some Xanax.

(32,149 posts)She is not in today. She has continuing education. I let her CNA have it. A message is being passed along. I threatened to go public with this. I let them know about my condition on July 26. It has been nothing but talk for two months. This could have spread to my spine by now.
I am scared, but also angry. And, dying.

(6,939 posts)And Im very very sorry that you do as I know how stressful that waiting is as its horrible on your well-being. That said you still have reason to be optimistic as they found it and now you can focus on treating it which Im confident you will be able to do!
I would however, as other posters have sensibly suggested, enlist the aid of someone inside or outside of the treatment facility to be your advocate and get them to move with some urgency so you dont have to endure these horrible delays. Id start here maybe as they have some good resources to help you find others who will help you through this.

And remember you have all of us who you can vent to any time and who will give you as much support to help you conquer this, which I know you can!
