Have any of you ever done victim advocacy?

I was talking to someone from my county's chapter of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center. They asked me if I would be interested in victim advocacy. I requested more information, and am thinking about it very seriously. Have any of you ever done something like this?

Yes. rape relief counselor. My suggestion is to listen to the victim as they need to know their voice, and not yours, is being heard.
The telephone line was manned 24/7, with my work schedule, my volunteer hours were during the night. Most of the volunteer work was over the phone, but there were times I met the victim at the hospital. I would suggest you become aware of the legal rights of victims and you as their advocate in a hospital setting as you will also need to advocate in that setting.
I suggest follow up contact, even weeks and months after things appear to have settled.

i did do hospice, and i’m sure they are much the same, at base. holding space for hurting ppl.

when i started the only training i got was the 3 hr intake interview. later they were doing whole day trainings, and a big onboarding process. i’m sure they wont just hand u a phone.

i got so much more out of it than i put into it. i had it pretty easy, cuz i took my therapy dog. drivin and holdin the leash was most of it. i was locked out in the plague. i’d kinda like to get back to it, but that org went under.
now i’m wondering if there’s somewhere in the hood i cd do this work. i have a new dog that’s getting serious training rn. she’d b great.

good luck. do it.

...and thanks for what you do as well!! As a caregiver/home aide, my path occasionally crosses with hospice people.
