snip-COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A newly introduced bill in the Ohio House would restrict certain healthcare coverage tied to gender-affirming procedures, adding to an ongoing legislative focus on transgender-related policies.

House Bill 838, introduced by Rep. Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.) on April 30, would prohibit the state and local governments from offering insurance plans that cover gender-reassignment surgery for public employees and elected officials. It would also bar Ohio’s Medicaid program from covering such procedures.-for-transgender-surgeries.

Under the proposal, local governments would be required to certify each year that they are in compliance. Those that do not certify or are found noncompliant could face financial penalties, including reductions to their local government fund payments distributed by the state."
