Related: About this forumTrump budget draft eliminates federal funding for LGBT youth suicide hot lines.
The cruelty is the point, always. LGBT youth are four times more likely than their peers to attempt suicide. Ahttps://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/data/yrbs/pdf/YRBS_Data-Summary-Trends_Report2023_508.pdf" target="_blank"> 2021 CDC study found that 45% of gay students and trans high school students have had thoughts of committing suicide. The leaked budget draft was reported by the Washington Post.
From the Trevor Project:
April 21, 2025 A leaked budget draft revealed the federal government has proposed to eliminate all funding for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifelines LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services a federal program that provides emergency crisis support to LGBTQ+ youth considering suicide effective October 1, 2025. Since being implemented in 2022, this program, funded through The United States Department of Health and Human Services, has provided more than 1.2 million crisis contacts with life-saving, LGBTQ+-inclusive crisis services.
Suicide prevention is about risk, not identity. Ending the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifelines LGBTQ+ youth specialized services will not just strip away access from millions of LGBTQ+ kids and teens it will put their lives at risk, said Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project. These programs were implemented to address a proven, unprecedented, and ongoing mental health crisis among our nations young people with strong bipartisan support in Congress and signed into law by President Trump himself.
I want to be clear to all LGBTQ+ young people: This news, while upsetting, is not final. And regardless of federal funding shifts, The Trevor Project remains available 24/7 for anyone who needs us, just as we always have.

Yes. I am going to contribute.
Full disclosure: I am an old gay man.
When I was a teen (and not out at all), a suicide hotline helped me stay alive.

I hope they get lots of contributions as a result of this news. I don't have enough disposable income to donate right now, but I'll make it a priority in the near future.
