Trans women should not compete in female sport - PM

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he does not believe transgender women should compete in female sporting events - a view he conceded may be "controversial".

The issue of transgender athletes - centred around the balance of inclusion, sporting fairness and safety in women's sport - has recently focused on the case of transgender cyclist Emily Bridges.

Bridges was recently ruled ineligible to compete in her first elite women's race by cycling's world governing body.

Johnson was speaking on a range of issues, including the government's approach to the ban on so-called conversion therapy, before adding: "I don't think biological males should be competing in female sporting events. Maybe that's a controversial thing to say, but it just seems to me to be sensible.

"I also happen to think that women should have spaces - whether it's in hospitals, prison or changing rooms - which are dedicated to women. That's as far as my thinking has developed on this issue.

15. It took me a minute to find the poster who had two posts hidden, but I found her.

She and the other two have been blocked from this group. At this moment, I am the only active host for the GLBT group. Many of the members have long left or have never returned after the last incident. I have to consult a friend about something, but I am hoping I can make an announcement by tomorrow about some of the issues facing this group. I apologize for the slow reaction time.

I think myself and Ingrid are tired of the constant transphobic behavior here on DU. Anytime I see a thread about Lia or just anything to do with transgender people. I know its gonna be loaded with a lot of transphobic remarks. Like I feel we are becoming boogeywomen here now because of us being used as the current GQP scapegoats. So of course its okay to cast us aside for the sake of us winning like we don't matter or our feelings matter

I'm glad for the most part people have kept quiet on the Texas and Florida shit, and most of the "hormones for trans teens" and "bathroom" stuff has died down. But every post about trans athletes anymore feels like a ticking time bomb... And it almost seems like a guarantee that shit will hit the fan the moment the name "Lia Thomas" is said around here. Honestly, I think there are people here who hate Lia more than Trump.

I do feel like all of us are being setup to be the boogeywomen and scapegoats. Some of them don't hide the fact that they think supporting us "will cost us the midterms!" and are all set to blame us in 7 months if the midterms don't go how they want.

So, yeah. It's tiring and infuriating to feel like there's plenty of hate coming from the left.. And we all know there's nothing but hatred from the right as it is.

By the time I checked here today and saw this thread, a number of posts (1, 2, 4 and 6) had already been removed. However, a few posts still remain... The usual nonsense about "7.5% taller" and "Bio.female has no chance". Because, apparently, they think it's okay to come debate in our faces in what is clearly marked as a safe space for us.

(I'd like to add that I'm onto one of the above. They think I don't realize they like to play the "kiss kiss, slap slap" game - one minute they're a friend, the next they're targeted the trans community. I may be blonde, but I'm not a dumb blonde...)

So, I'm not sure what was said in those 4 removed posts. Just the ones still visible at this time. But judging by some of the still visible replies, and what FreeState said in post 8? I'm guessing at least one of those posts was quite transphobic... Like I'm shocked.

22. Hey y'all, I want to make it clear

that I posted this because I am an ally. I do not have any trans persons in my family. I know one personally who has had to hide from his family most of his life. I have had gay friends all my life and I have a gay granddaughter. The transphobes and homophobes make me furious and I'm not sure what to do about them other than ban the hell outta them, but they sure do not belong here. I don't want to talk to them because you can't reason with them. You just can't. So I hope you won't yell at me for posting this. I did it because it made me so damn mad.
