He recalled a conversation he had with Khan last year, where Khan allegedly said: You just wait and see. If I apply for warrants against Netanyahu, this would give countries like Germany and Canada the excuse they need to turn against the Israeli government.

(18,521 posts)Arsen Ostrovsky, human rights lawyer and CEO of the International Legal Forum, which was one of the groups that made an appeal against the arrest warrants, said that Khan has broken every rule in the book, including the rule of law.
Instead of upholding the courts mission in the pursuit of justice, the prosecutor has unleashed a great injustice in pursuing these mendacious and baseless warrants, and an unremitting political agenda against Israeli leaders for lawfully defending the country against Hamas and seeking to rescue the remaining hostages, Ostrovsky added.

(3,398 posts)You really think that because we don't buy the lie that he's a war criminal, that we think he's a saint? That because we stand up for truth that we love Netanyahu? That kind of thinking illustrates the black and white obsessiveness of the anti-Israel crowd.

The nation, and its leadership, are going to get some pushback.

Sarcasm of course.
It's always shoot the messenger, isn't it?
Fyi, Khan's appointment caused dismay among the pro-Palestinian side. He was seen as way too pro-Israel. Actually proved correct, he dawdled for over 6 months while Gaza and its children burned. But even he was not able to stomach it eventually and did his job finally.

--snip--
The flurry of announcements came as Khan faced the prospect of US economic sanctions against him which materialised in February and in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against him by a member of his staff. Khan has denied the allegations, which external investigators are now examining.
According to court officials with knowledge of internal discussions, the publicity generated by Khans statements has frustrated ICC judges and staff within the prosecutors office due to concerns his actions have departed from routine practice and placed pressure on the judges considering the applications. In their secret order in the Palestine case, the judges have blocked publicity that even alludes to the filing of applications for arrest warrants, and ordered Khan to refrain from disclosing any forthcoming requests unless he receives their permission.
A separate panel of ICC judges had issued a similar order in at least one other case, three sources said, in an apparent sign of a wider crackdown on Khans approach.
Sounds like ICC judges are ecstatic over Karim Khan finally doing his job.

That is if you take the Hamas casualty numbers for God's honest truth, and considering that Israeli civilian losses were incurred during a cease fire, not in wartime. And not counting the hostages.

Your opinion counts, but not nearly as much as a determination by a competent legal authority.

You or I may not like it for one reason or another, but this is the standard that binds all societies. Otherwise, due process of law becomes a joke.
And you don't want to make sarcastic jokes about that, do you?

(2,768 posts)Absurd.
Once the ICC arrives at the conclusion that war crimes and crimes against humanity have been and are being committed, its Prosecutor aims for buy-in and support from Western nations party to the ICC.
It's not a question of "turning against Israel" but of support for the ICC's authority and the whole system of international justice.
This should not be hard. But when it's concerning Israel, laws can be turned on their head, ignored and its upholders vilified. Because Israel can never be held accountable even when committing a genocide.

(12,358 posts)The ICC prosecutor arrived at the conclusion that war crime allegations against two of Israel's leaders should be referred to the ICC judges. The ICC judges are currently deliberating on the merits of the prosecutor's decision.
It is only after a trrial, if it ever takes place, that the ICC makes any determination or reaches any conclusion.
Quite a bit premature to hold Israel accountable for anything, no?
Nice smilie, BTW.

(2,768 posts)Rather than being arrested as soon as they step on U.S. soil like any other fugitive from the law.
Any other ones?
No.
Beastly Boy
(12,358 posts)It's a deflection. But I will bite.
I have no idea where "fugitive from the law" is coming from. It is a made up notion, just as your misguided understanding of due process of law ICC is bound by is. No Israeli in the US can possibly be a fugitive from ICC. Neither Israel nor the US are signatories to the Rome convention. So I am not sure what law would have prevented any Israeli official from addressing the US Congress or allowed for them to be arrested.
Wishful thinking changes none of it.
But you already knew all of this, before you posted.
