I've been living in San Diego since 1984 and there are always stories like this on the news. The guardians and adults should get fined big bucks. Maybe that will send a more serious message to these human losers. Hit them in their pocketbooks.

There are a couple of man made ponds in our neighborhood, and there are prominent signs forbidding fishing. All summer long I see parents and kids, most of whom are old enough to read, fishing in them, sometimes standing right next to the signs. As a parent, how do you explain that blatant disregard of the rules to your kids?

apparently even in the face of public warning and chastisement by authority.

And, you're right - there is a very deliberate 'message' inherent in parenting in this manner.

They may have to put a fence up to keep stupid humans away from wild animals. They can't just appreciate them from afar in their habitat. We've read numerous stories of oblivious people being gored, kicked, bit because they just have to get that selfie.

I think I remember that sea lions will bite?

From what I've read, getting bitten is unlikely unless they're provoked. Those kids were certainly doing that, so the ranger probably did that family a favor by making them leave.
