I’ve said it once, I’ve said it again and again: Republicans cannot be trusted with infrastructure. Their donors and influencers are ideologically opposed to government-funded or government-operated engineering projects that benefit the commonwealth, even in cases where the private sector is unable or unwilling to finance or organize what needs to be done.

This is not a new development. This has been true of the Republican Party for the last quarter-century. Any Republican interested in the benefit of present and future generations (assuming that there are any left) needs to wake up and face unpleasant facts. So does the rest of the electorate— including Democrats.
