Imagine that you live in northern New Jersey and you work in Midtown Manhattan. You drive because you are limited with taking the bus to the Port Authority or taking the train to Hoboken, getting on PATH, and then the subway.

And you have to pay to cross the Hudson River, via the George Washington Bridge, the Lincoln Tunnel, or the Holland Tunnel. Here is a schedule of the rates as per vehicle:

Pricey, huh?

Add to that another $9.00 ($45 a week) on top of that.

And say you are a teacher, a firefighter, etc. and your paycheck is stretched as it is. This is going to make a difference, a big difference. (You wouldn't qualify for the indigent discount for congestion pricing.)

And your NJ Transit bus ticket will increase as the buses will be going over the Bridge or in the tunnels. (I wonder if PATH would be exempt as it's a subway tunnel, not a vehicle tunnel.)

We'll see how long this lasts . . . . .
