"If we continue to fill the atmosphere with carbon dioxide. . .

Fossil records reveal Earth’s mass extinctions are followed by a rise of ocean cephalopods.

They’re rising again during the current 6th mass extinction.

Let’s hope they have a better go of it than we primates have. Something tells me they couldn’t do worse at least.

"If we continue to fill the atmosphere with carbon dioxide in volumes that match the volcanoes and lavas that tended the Triassic, creating a reduction in high latitude polar regions without similar temperature increase in the tropics (what is happening now), and if we cause the critical ocean currents to slow or cease by 2050, and studies predict we are, then in all probability we are headed toward the sixth mass extinction. The cephalopods are coming."

down to regulating the fossil fuel industry. Not sure if they don't believe in science or if it is just plain greed or personal aggrandizement? Our so-called state environmental watchdog, TCEQ has given the fossil fuel industry a pass on just about every violation in the past and present. The result if nasty air and water, leaking abandons wells, and basically a environmental disaster.
The only conclusion anyone can come to is that they do not care about their children, grandchildren or the future. It is sad and it needs to change.

Sorry everybody, - I’ve been adamantly saying for over 30 years now that this is the most vital issue we face. Sometimes I feel that most Democrats are more interested in their pet issues then “The 6th Mass Extinction” and it’s not helping.

6. It's quite possible for us to destroy the environment, to the point where the cephalopods will not survive either

In his final book, Novascene, James Lovelock, explained that because the Sun has warmed over the eons, the Earth is no longer in the “Habitable Zone”/“Goldilocks Zone.” It is only life (most notably green plants) that by maintaining a much lower level of atmospheric greenhouse gases than Venus and Mars keep the planet suitably cool.

He compares “Gaia” to an old woman, who no longer has the resilience to fight off life-threatening diseases like she once did. If we kill off all life, it will not reemerge. If we only kill off most life, it may never recover.

7. Notice, by the way, that carbon dioxide is not visible in the "pie chart" representing Earth's atmosphere

These days, we are measuring concentrations of 430 parts per million. This is much less than 1% (i.e. one part per hundred/10,000 ppm.)
